Let's raise some money for ME PTSA! Here are some tips & tricks for using the Raise Craze site to raise donations so our students can pay it forward. First, help your student set up their personalized fundraising website. You can choose to upload a photo of your student, or use a different photo to represent them. Below are two options you can download and use! If you don't upload ANY photo, it will just use our fundraiser's Kind Heart logo. Raise Craze has some great ideas for acts of kindness. Choose a few of those, or your student can enter in their own ideas to pay it forward. Check out our blog post with 20 Acts Of Kindness in 10 Minutes Or Less! Raise Craze offers the option to enter email addresses and send out personalized emails to friends and family far and wide. Raise Craze promises that these emails will never be shared with third parties, or used for marketing. However, If you would rather not provide that data, you can still share your student's personal donation site. Here's how! From the student's Raise Craze Dashboard, just choose "View Website" or copy and paste the site link from the bottom. The red arrows in the photo below show where you can find these options. Then just copy and paste that link to share via email, text, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or wherever you keep in touch with the people who support your student! You and your supporters can also choose to mail in donations. Just make sure that the cash or check is in an envelope marked with the student and teacher's name, and deliver to us at: ME PTSA c/o Treasurer 2600 Mukilteo Speedway Mukilteo WA 98275 We would love to see photos of your student paying it forward with Acts Of Kindness, If you share your photos on social media accounts, just tag us or email them to us at [email protected] and we will reshare them on our Facebook, Instagram, and website - as long as the photos only include your student. Bonus points if your student wears their Invest In Kindness shirt as they pay it forward!
Be sure to follow us on social media to watch our awesome students invest in their communities! We so appreciate your support! Being kind can be quick and easy! Here are twenty Acts Of Kindness that you can do in ten minutes or less. I bet you can think of even more!
Have you heard about our Art Docent program at ME? The Art Docent program is one of the most impactful line items in the PTSA budget because it directly benefits every ME student with hands-on learning opportunities. The Art Docent program is run entirely by volunteers and entirely funded by the ME PTSA. Volunteer art docents bring fine art into the classroom by planning age-appropriate presentations and projects. These lessons are more than just crafts or directed-drawing, they introduce students to famous artists and works of art, contextual world history, art movements, different artistic mediums like tempera, acrylic, and watercolor paint; chalk and oil pastels; charcoal; and collage, as well as teaching art concepts like under-drawing/foundational drawing, color theory, perspective, negative space, texture, shading, blending, and more. It is amazing to see the beautiful art these students produce! Students also learn about the process of making art, how different artists work, and how artists study and sketch and practice and refine and repeat their work until they are happy with it. This hands-on learning teaches students resiliency and a growth mindset as they learn the value of “happy accidents,” how to work through “mistakes.” Marc Chagall - Paris Through The Window, 1913. Original on left, student work on right. Georges Seurat - The Seine at La Grande Jatte, 1888. Original on left. Students learned about Seurat's technique of pointillism, and made dots of color with q-tips and fingertips. One second-grader petitioned for a lesson on Artemisia Genteleschi after reading about her in the Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls book. The class learned about Renaissance painting by studying sections of Genteleschi's self-portrait. Pictured above is the original painting, the painting divided into sections, and then the student's work compiled into a (mostly) whole piece. The Art Docent program is entirely funded by the ME PTSA. The program Chairperson maintains the supply closet, ordering and replenishing materials. For several years, the Art Docent program has operated with a yearly budget of $1,500. That translates to $63 per classroom, or $2.50 per student FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR. It is a joy to see the students' work displayed on the walls of the office, the library, and the halls, and students should be proud of the amazing art they make! Below are just a few more examples of some of the wonderful projects our art docents create. To see more of these projects as they are shared, just follow ME PTSA on Facebook and Instagram!
Multi-Cultural Night was a great night full of all kinds of beautiful clothes and special treasures, delicious food, and fun crafts and games. It was so wonderful to learn more about all the different and interesting places represented in our ME community! Did you know that Mrs. Green was born in Norway? She brought delicious Norwegian waffles with jam, and so many beautiful things from Norway where knitting and handicrafts and rosemaling painting are such a big part of every day life. Did you know that Mrs. Bade grew up in Japan, and her children were raised there as well? She brought some of the things she acquired there to share with us. Did you know that Ms. Wise was born and raised in Alaska, and comes from a long line of Alaskan pioneers? She brought many treasures from her time in Alaska, including mukluks! Kids had so much fun making maracas and piñatas at the Mexico table, with delicious Mexican rice, hosted by the Cantor family. ME PTSA would love to share your photos on our Instagram, blog, and Facebook! If you have photos to share, you can tag us in your post, or email photos to us at [email protected], along with any details to share.
If you have any photos you would like to submit for the yearbook, you can email them to [email protected]. Please note that photos should not include any faces other than the ones that belong to you. We can only share photos if we have permission from every recognizable person. We know it can be tricky to get photos without anyone else in the background, you have to get creative with your angles! This is a good standard for sharing photos on your own social media accounts - never post photos including anyone else's kids, unless you get permission from their guardian first! The MEPTSA Budget currently includes $15,000 earmarked for "Special Projects." It is our goal to identify and fund those special projects before the end of this fiscal/school year, to ensure that we do not have to pay additional taxes on our budget balance.
We will be accepting special project proposals from the school and parent community through January 18, 2019. The PTSA Executive Board will select a number of proposals to be put up for a vote. If your submission is selected for voting, you will be invited to present your proposal at the PTSA meeting on February 11, 2019. The PTSA membership will then vote on how to allocate the funds. Proposals should benefit the student population as a whole. Proposals must be practical and possible. Please research any necessary school, district, or municipal policies or procedures and include any relevant documentation in your proposal. Please include links or materials to support your proposals, including any and all costs, materials, sources, and suppliers or vendors. We can't wait to see what you come up with! Submit your proposals online here. UPDATED - Sponsorship Opportunity Ends January 15.
