Volunteer Art Docents bring art history and fine art lessons into the ME classrooms!

Art Docent ProgramMukilteo Elementary PTSA oversees the Art Docent Program, including helping to coordinate volunteers, developing curriculum, funding supplies, and maintaining materials. The program is run entirely by volunteers.
Art Docents are volunteers who bring fine arts into the classrooms approximately once a month. You do not need to be an artist or a teacher to volunteer, or to teach successful lessons and projects! Short lessons and fun projects introduce students to artists and works of art, contextual world history, and art movements through different artistic mediums, as acrylics, watercolors, chalk/oil pastels, and collage. They also teach art concepts as color theory, perspective, texture, shading, blending, and more.

Scheduling
The Art Docent Chairperson(s) will hold an orientation in September.
Scheduling will vary class by class. Volunteers coordinate directly with their teachers to determine a schedule. It can be helpful to make a recurring schedule, or to schedule out all lesson dates in advance.
Lessons can be provided with little or no pre-planning for each month, or you are welcome to create your own if you like. Lessons are usually an hour or less of class time, with a half hour on either end for prep and clean up.
We hope for at least six lessons per classroom each school year. Ideally, one lesson each month from October through May (8 total) would be fantastic!

Art Displays at School
